As temperatures rise, algae growth becomes one of the biggest pool problems. Once it blooms, it can turn water green overnight — but prevention is easy if you stay ahead.
1 – Keep Chlorine Levels Consistent
Maintain chlorine between 2–4 ppm. Use a floating dispenser or chlorinator to keep levels stable, especially on hot days.
2 – Brush and Vacuum Weekly
Algae spores cling to walls and floors, especially in shaded or low-circulation areas. Brushing physically removes these spores before they bloom.
3 – Run Your Pump Long Enough
Ensure proper circulation — 8+ hours daily in spring and up to 10 during summer. Dead spots or poor flow are algae’s best friends.
4 – Use Algaecide Preventatively
Add a non-copper-based algaecide weekly if your pool is prone to algae, especially in areas with lots of shade or trees.
Pro Tip: Green tinge or slippery surfaces? Treat it early before it spreads. Prevention costs less than a full cleanup.
